Middle East Centre for Training and Development (MECTD)
participated in the 16th Gulf Research Meeting (GRM 2026), held from 21–23 July
2026 at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. The annual conference
convened leading academics, policymakers, diplomats, and regional experts to
examine key political, economic, and social developments shaping the Gulf
region.
As part of the conference, MECTD presented a research paper
examining information gaps between pre-departure and post-arrival orientation
programmes for migrant workers, using Sri Lanka and the Emirate of Dubai as a
case study. The paper highlighted the importance of strengthening information
continuity throughout the migration journey to better support safe, informed,
and rights-based labour migration.
Beyond presenting its research, MECTD actively engaged in
discussions on a wide range of papers and emerging regional issues,
contributing practical perspectives from the GCC and reinforcing the Centre’s
commitment to evidence-based research and regional dialogue on migration and
labour governance.
