The Global Alliance Against Trafficked in Women (GAATW) Thailand in collaboration with Dubai based Middle East Centre for Training and Development (MECTD) conducted a four-day event titled ‘’Understanding UAE’s Anti-Trafficking Governance and Exploring Possible Collaboration for a Change of Narratives’’. Nearly 13 members of GAATW, who are working against human trafficking and safe migration in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka took part in this intensive workshop in order to enhance their knowledge on how state and non-state actors in UAE engaged in addressing the issues of human trafficking and labour migration.
During the event, the delegates held meetings with the migrant communities, visited respective diplomatic missions and social welfare groups to understanding their role in supporting trafficked distressed migrant workers. In addition, the discussions held with the Dubai Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs (PCLA), Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWC) and private companies enabled delegates to understand how inaccurate information on social media on recruitment processes have resulted in migrant workers being subjected to human trafficking.
